Kite making is an ancient Chinese tradition, which originated over 2800 years ago as a way to measure distance and wind direction. What is now a favorite past time, kites often resemble birds, mythical creatures, and Chinese Zodiac animals. Kites vary in size, anywhere from one foot (30 cm) to some nearly as large as 1000 feet (304 meters)! To celebrate this time honored tradition, the children will be making their own kites during small group activities.
