Pre-Kindergarten

Cheerful, energetic, and enthusiastic probably describes your Pre-K child. Pre-K is an important time for children, as they prepare for Kindergarten and continue their love of learning. Our experienced teachers are dedicated to providing a rich and nurturing environment that will prepare your child for Kindergarten.

Our comprehensive Pre-K curriculum continues to build on your child’s skills and provide challenging experiences, while incorporating Poway Unified School’s guidelines to properly get them ready for Kindergarten. Journal writing, vocabulary building, and letter sounds are just a few things your child will experience with our Zoo-phonics program (www.zoophonics.com). Math and science concepts taught, will include, one-to-one correspondence, patterns and relationships, geometry, money, measurement and time. Your Pre-K child will experience art appreciation by learning about the different types of creative expression and artists using different mediums. And don’t forget Music – the universal language! Here at Kids’ Care Club, your child will enjoy singing, dancing, movement, and playing musical instruments.

Language Development

  • Build vocabulary through daily discussions
  • Reading and retelling stories by using a variety of books including beginning reader books
  • Providing daily journal activities to practice writing including upper and lower case letters
  • Dictating ideas to develop word and sentence knowledge
  • Learning letters and words including beginning and ending sounds in fun and engaging ways

Math & More

  • Learning concepts about money and value
  • Understanding time such as minutes, hours, days, and months
  • Learning complex patterns and geometric shapes
  • Solving basic number problems such as addition and subtraction
  • Using a variety of tools to learn about measurement
  • Collecting data using graphing and charting

Science Discovery

  • Participating in experiments while predicting and exploring results
  • Creating opportunities to ask and answer open-ended questions
  • Promoting an understanding of sequencing such as first, next, and last
  • Cooking to learn about directions, measurement, and outcome
  • Learning about plant and life cycle stages
  • Observing and participating in caring for our school garden

Artist

  • Storytelling through drawing and dictation
  • 2 & 3 dimensional art such as using clay or making models.
  • Inventing unique dance moves and learning different types of dances
  • Using props to act out stories
  • Being creative through art and music

Social & Emotional Development

  • Practice social skills while building friendships
  • Providing group discussions to share ideas, thoughts, and feelings
  • Providing opportunities to cooperate, problem-solve, and make choices
  • Learning about the community, such as understanding jobs, community involvement, and recycling
  • Learning social studies, including countries and cultures

Health Awareness

  • Building coordination and physical development through running, jumping, and throwing activities
  • Improving balance skills using hula hoops and balance beams
  • Learning about safety and helping make class rules
  • Practicing healthy habits through teaching nutrition and proper hygiene
