Summer is the perfect time for young children to ask big questions, make joyful messes, and explore the world through hands-on discovery. At Kids Care Club, our STEAM preschool summer program brings learning to life with Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math activities designed to spark curiosity and creativity all season long.
Our NAEYC-accredited curriculum ensures that even our youngest learners engage in meaningful, developmentally appropriate activities that promote both exploration and growth. Here’s how each element of STEAM comes to life at KCC this summer:
1. Science: Learning Through Observation
Children are natural scientists. We tap into their curiosity with activities like growing bean sprouts in plastic bag greenhouses or watching baking soda volcanos bubble and fizz. These experiments teach cause and effect while encouraging children to ask, “What do you think will happen next?”
KCC Highlight: During our “Garden Explorers” week, children observe how sunlight and water help plants grow. They document their observations with drawings and simple journaling.
2. Technology: Simple Tools That Spark Discovery
Light tables are a fun and simple way for preschoolers to explore early tech concepts. Kids learn that technology isn’t just screens—it can be tools like a light table that help us see and do things in new ways. It’s all about learning through hands-on play and discovering how things work!
KCC Highlight: Kids use light tables, they might flip switches, explore glowing objects, or use arrows and symbols to practice basic coding skills. Some classrooms even add light-up toys, circuits, or x-rays to spark curiosity.
3. Engineering: Building Big Ideas with Little Hands
We give children materials to build and test ideas: blocks, cardboard, pipe cleaners, and even pool noodles. These hands-on experiences help develop spatial awareness, perseverance, and problem-solving.
KCC Highlight: Children design and build bridges using pool noodles and painter’s tape, testing how many small toys their bridges can hold before collapsing.
4. Arts: Creative Expression Through Movement and Media
Art isn’t just about making something pretty—it helps children process emotions, develop fine motor skills, and express ideas in new ways.
KCC Highlight: During “Music Makers” week, children create their own instruments from recycled materials and perform a group concert for their classmates.
5. Math: Making Sense of the World Through Numbers
Math for preschoolers is all about recognizing patterns, comparing sizes, and understanding sequences. At KCC, we introduce math concepts through games, movement, and real-life applications.
KCC Highlight: In our “Under the Sea” theme, kids count and sort seashells by size and color, then graph their findings using stickers and poster boards.
By weaving STEAM into every corner of our STEAM preschool summer curriculum, we give children the tools to wonder, experiment, and grow. More than just summer fun, our program builds the foundation for future learning—all while keeping curiosity at the center.
